Switcher for windows

Ok so I like the application switcher built into OS X on the Mac, A LOT, so I started looking for something similar in windows. It works almost identical and it has quite a few options. I use it daily and think its a god send. Check it out.

Switcher home.

Direct download.

Putty Connection Manager

So I use SSH A LOT, I am a SysAdmin and WebDev so I am always sshing into different servers and what not. I typically use putty which is the windows standard. When in Linux I just use the built in.

I started looking around for another ssh client, that better supports tabs and has more features like a better server list and auto login without keys etc.

Thats when I found Putty Connection manager. Its a little buggy, but for the most part it works wonderful! It is exactly what I need. Has a small built in macro to automatically run short one liners after logging in. The official website is here, but I also have a direct download here.

Now you do need to have putty installed, you can get that from the putty website, here.

AOC Breeze Upgraded to Android 2

So I bought my wife a cheap android tablet to use for email and to have the kindle app on to read books. Come to find out that the kindle app worked like ass on this particular version of android. Wouldn’t let you download books etc. So I bought her a kindle and this tablet has sat on my desk for a few months now. So out of the blue I decide to start messing with it and mod it. I begin looking around and I find a nice little tutorial on how to upgrade it to android 2.2 (Link Here). Goes well and I begin wondering if I could upgrade it further. I was not really worried about bricking it as I paid $100 for it and I don’t really use it. So I grab a rom from here do some mojo magic and viola AOC Breeze running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.5) So I am still having a few issues, market doesn’t work with alot of apps, because the screen density is wrong, the screen rotation is reversed so its a pain to read unless you turn of rotation. So I crack open the rom, make some changes to the build.prop and voila, right as rain.

You want to do it to your breeze?
WARNING! I make no guarantees, you could brick your tablet if you follow these instructions! They worked for me but may not work for you!

1. Download the breeze tools and the system image.
Tools
My Image

2. Now you have the tools to Update your Operating system, you need to know how to update first.

    Turn your MW081 off
    Connect it to PC
    Press Power Button Once

Now the device will be recognized as RK2818 device.
You need to install driver. Unzip the Tools zip, Drivers are located here: W9_0.18.20101201.214043\Driver\281xDriver
Once the drivers installed, start up RKAndroidBatchUpgrade which can be found here: W9_0.18.20101201.214043\RK2818_v1.23

Now select the image (Where ever you saved it) click the … button next to the Image field.
in the device upgrade area you should see a pink flashing box labeled 1.
Click Switch.
When the pink box goes green, click upgrade.

Once it is done copying to your tablet, your Breeze should go into restore mode. Just leave it alone.
Once it goes through ..3.., ..2.., ..1.. and the screen goes black, hold the power button till the blue light goes off.
Now turn it it on again, and voila!
Your upgraded.

I will help if I can, but please do not ask for custom roms, etc.

Thanks!

Looks like I will be going to codeworks in January. Pretty excited.

Why I am not buying the Nexus S

I am not afraid to admit that I am a Google phanboi. But this Phanboi will not be buying an Nexus S. I can look past the fact that it is the Galaxy S repackaged with a front facing camera. I can look past the the fact that the hardware really does not push boundaries. What I can not do is look past the fact that it does NOT have an sd micro slot. I have a 32GB mini sd card that set me back about 80 dollars that I carry a large ortion of music and movies on for those boring times with nothing to do. Yes I am aware that the Nexus S has 16GB on board, but the fact that the Galaxy S has 16GB on board plus an micro sd slot is not lost on me. So sorry Google, this phanboi is not buying the Nexus S.

December

Sometimes you met your destiny on the road you take to avoid it.

Guess I am in a melancholy mood today. Been a rough couple days at work, been an avalanche of problems, network issues that cause server issues that cause application issues that cause database issues. I would say I have gotten roughly 8 hours sleep in the last three days. Running an small business is not an easy task, you have vendors and employees and contractors and you have to watch each one to make sure they are doing the right thing; at the same time you have to do all your duties to keep the business running and on top that its not my business… Well I guess it is in a sense it is as it provides me and my family with a wonderful living and for the most part I enjoy what I do when there is not avalanche issues. I treat it like it is my business, I pour my heart and soul in to it. I guess right now I am just feeling beat down…..

This is how I feel everytime I talk to a IPhone fanboi

Ubuntu 10.4 Close, Minimize, Maximize buttons on the left!?

SO I have been running Ubuntu 10.4 for a few days now, been using ubuntu on and off for several years and with 10.4 they moved the close, minimize and maximize to the left side of the window. This has been a very annoying change. So I wanted to change it back and here is how:

Press Alt+F2, then type gconf-editor and press enter. That’s for opening the configuration editor.

Once on this editor, in the item tree at the left, you have to look for this path app -> metacity -> general and you doubleclick on the field named button_layout.

Then, you have only to change the value field and put this:

menu:minimize,maximize,close

There are a lot of little changes in10.4 like this that annoy me.

Wow, been neglecting my blog

So, I guess I have been super busy and been neglecting  my online life. So I figured I would come give a summary of the last three months, wax philosophical for a bit then go to bed.  So my parents just left, was a great visit, my dad was here for almost two months and my mom was here for a week.  While dad was here we played some golf, and hung out. It was good to spend some time with him, we don’t talk much, just the way we are.  Its interesting we can go play golf and have lunch and its like two old friends being together, you don’t have much to say but it is not awkward, is very comfortable and enjoyable.

Once mom got into town we headed over to Las Vegas, my wife has never been. We stayed at the MGM grand and had a good ole time walking teh strip, gambling a little and visiting family that live there. Saw the Cirque du soleil show KA. Was pretty cool, great mixture of acrobatics and acting.

I bought myself a Nexus One when they came out, absolutely love the thing. Was happy when they added multi-touch and I Can’t wait till Flash goes live on it.

I was going to wax philosophical about life, work and raising children, but I am tired, will do it another time.
