New Ubuntu Beta

Well I have to admit, I am an Ubuntu fanboi. I use it at home, at work and anywhere I can get away with it. I dunno if its the fancy technical titles like “Gutsy Gibbon” or the fact thats its based on Debian, but damn it, I like it. Anyway, I just saw the latest update on Ubuntu’s website that 7.10 “Gutsy Gibbon” has been release for beta testing. Skimming through the new features I saw a few things I liked. Most notably the following:

NTFS writing

While previous Ubuntu releases only supported read access to Windows (NTFS) partitions, Gutsy Gibbon now fully supports reading and writing to them, by integrating the NTFS-3g project. This significantly eases file and document sharing with Windows.

Additional installation profiles for Ubuntu Server

New pre-configured installation options have been added to the Ubuntu Server CD. Mail Server, File Server, Print Server, and Database Server options join existing LAMP and DNS options for pre-configured installations, easing the deployment of common server configurations.

These are two very handy features I know I will take advantage of. So to the Devs over at Ubuntu, great job! Keep up the good work.

So long Vista, and thanks for all the blue screams!

Vista enhancing clarity

Well, after I finished playing Halo 2, I kept vista aroud for a few weeks, but the darn thing kept blue screening on me everytime I would let it sit over night. (If you looking for tech help on it, sorry never figured it out.)

So with much fanfare I rang the bell and Vista is no more, at least for now, I may go back when the release is more stable and I do not have to worry about blue screens and terrible FPS.
