I have been doing some looking around at IT Certification programs, been thinking of getting a few certifications to round out my resume and add to decorate my office a bit. IT Certification Training is a good way to get noticed when you go on an interview or even to get the call to get an interview. So I have been looking around and this site game me some great info and has some of the better programs around. I have tried some of their training modules and they have put the right technology and training methodologies into their product. Right now they are running an offer to try one of their courses for free. So head on over and check it out.

Toshiba is coming out with the first laptop to contain an HD DVD-RW. The laptops will range from $2600 to $3500 USD and look to contain an HD DVD-RW that writes at 2x. Right now it looks like this little computer will only be available in Japan. The laptop is the 17-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) “Qosmio” with a 2.2GHz T7500 Core 2 Duo, up to 400GB of disk and 4GB of memory, and a pair of terrestrial HDTV tuners with HDMI-out. Now that is some serious hardware.

I run the IT department for a small e-commerce company, most of our servers are co-located offsite but we do have a small server room with two NAS file servers a web server and a domain server for local internal use. Well I was running into network issues at night when no one is in the office, I was suspecting something was wrong with one of our servers or even our Cisco router. I did many hours of troubleshooting, changing out parts, you name it I tried it. Then I got to thinking about when this was happening, late at night, I suspected the building admin were turning off the air conditioning at night. After talking to them they said they were not, so I needed proof. I found a nice little monitoring tool, Temperature@lert USB Temperature Monitor and plugged it in. And sure enough this awesome little tool gave me the proof to go back and tell them what was going on. Sure enough, later that day I got a call saying the indeed their controls were set wrong and it has been corrected. This little tool is a life saver!
So Aside from running my blog I run a few websites, most are currently in development, but I have maxed out on my current web host so I have been doing some looking around and I was made aware of Momentum.com. So far I have been very impressed with the full line of services they offer from Co-Location to dedicated hosting They offer a full suite of management tools and services that make Momentum.com a leading contender for when I switch my other web services. You can usally tell how good a Hosting company is by looking at whom they do business with and if you check out their site you will see they host some of the bigger and well established companies, this leads me to believe it’s a solid operation. I am still looking for a new host, but they are on my short list.

CompUSA may not have the lowest prices or have the marketing power of Best Buy but I could usally count on them to give me a few good deals through out the year. Those deals would normally bring me in a couple times during a month just too look for bargains. Well its been officially announced that Best buy is being dismantled and shutdown after the holiday season. While I am not terribly upset by its passing I am however excited at the possible deals that may come out of the closings. So you can look forward to me being at the several Tampa area CompUSA’s for their liquidation sales.
I’ve had to launch sites from scratch before so I know the hassle of getting the infrastructure ready, planning your network and building out the needed areas to support you application. So I was pleasantly surprised when I ran across OpSource.net, their SaaS solutions have the right tools to launch you applications and get your company headed in the right direction from the start. Looking at their tool set and consulting goals OpSource.net has done the basic ground work for any new startup, and has a great platform for any existing business to migrate too. I just wish it was around when I was launching some of my earlier projects. So if you need to get your application to market, check out OpSource.net’s SaaS solutions.
So I was doing some looking around the internet today, I am trying to find some security cameras for my house. I then happened to come across a site with some pretty good deals. Their wireless security cameras deals are some of the best I have found for the money. I was actually quite impressed with the selection and the various add-ons, upgrades and extras for a security setup.
On top of that they happened to have some good deals on bar code scanners and bar code printers, something I have been trying to implement at work to make our switch to a paperless environment easier. Their selection of electronics and business products was quite impressive. If you’re looking for some gear for the office or home, I recommend you check them out.
Ok so i have a firstgen Zune 30, and today I got this e-mail from Microsoft:
So I knew this was coming and pretty excited about it, its not often a major company like microsoft upgrades first gen music players, so I was pretty happy about it. After downloading the new software for the computer, it loaded pretty flawless for me, for a change…I was quite happy about that.
Next it detected the old firmware on my Zune30 asked me if I wanted to update, which I did, and away it went. Again no problems what so ever… So now my new Zune firmware is up and running and so far I am very happy, one thing I hated about the old firmware is if I was switching through songs sometimes it would lockup for a second, or it would take a few seconds for the screen to catch up to the music that was playing. I am happy to report that this bug is gone! That made me very happy.
I have yet to sync using the new wireless feature as I am at work but once I get around to syncing and using it some more I will update again. Right now I have to give Microsoft a thumbs up on the new Zune Firmware and the upgrade process, I am satisfied. Good job MS!
Well its official, google is going to move into the move into the cell phone world with an open source OS. Right now it looks like they are basically developing a platform to deliver their services and ADs with out the restrictions placed on normal mobile phones. This could be exciting if the platform catches on, being open source will allow any programmer the ability to see the OS and make their own apps, that should be exciting.

One of the first phones to have the new OS and is rumored to be Google’s “Dream” phone, is manufactured by HTC and called the Omni. This looks to be a well rounded and sleek looking phone with aa nice feature set.

So I finally got around to building me a new box, the old one was a little dusty and not as fast and spiffy as I wanted so I decided to upgrade. I started my search looking for a new mother board and processor, memory is easy as I know I want at least 2gb.
So I started my search for the processor first and after checking out a few sites I stumbled upon a great resource for Processor reviews not only was there a huge list of todays current processors there was a mountain of reviews for each processor. This was a tremendous help because I could tell from the reviews which processors had more issues than others. So after cruising around for a bit I settled on a AMD ATHLON64 5000+ X2 Box AM2.
So Now I began searching for the motherboard and low and behold they have a great section for motherboard reviews too. I am still a little on the fence on which motherboard to buy though, here is what I was thinking:
or the:
Kinda wanting to go with the Micro ATX factor and do a small case great for Lan Parties…What do you guys think?
